Q - What are Retriever Hunting Tests

A - Retriever Hunting tests are AKC events that attempt to evaluate the hunting abilities of all retrievers.

Junior

  • Two Single Land Retrieves
  • Two Single Water Retrieves
  • May be gently restrained at the line
  • Must return bird to the handler’s hand

Senior

  • One land double
  • One land blind retrieve
  • One water double
  • One water blind retrieve
  • Must be steady on the line
  • Must honor another dog

Master

  • Multiple marked retrieves: land, water, and land water combination
  • Demanding blind retrieves (land and water) - one must be a double blind
  • Honor another dog, must be steady
  • Walkups - the first bird is thrown, the dog is walking at heel
